Uinen was a leucistic axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum).
Adopting her at three years old, she was a light in the sky of our lives as we navigated our final years of undergraduate studies. She loved being hand-fed pellets, sitting still (occasionally swimming),
trying to hide her 12-inch-long body in a 6-inch-long cave, and floating around her airstone, allowing bubbles to aerate her gills, occasionally attempting to eat the bubbles...
On the morning of May 30, 2025, while being nursed back to health from injuries sustained during a cross-country shipment, we tragically lost Uinen.
We were incredibly excited to be reunited with her, as my partner and I had just finished moving into our apartment, and were hopeful for her recovery.
We can only thank her for finding the strength to fight and see mom and dad for a final few days.
